Locating and Sizing Electric Vehicle Chargers Considering Multiple Technologies

In order to foster electric vehicle (EV) adoption rates, the availability of a pervasive and efficient charging network is crucial requirement. this paper, we provide decision support tool for helping policymakers locate size EV stations. We consider multi-year planning horizon, taking into account different technologies time periods (day night). Accounting these features, propose an optimization model that minimizes total investment costs while ensuring predetermined adequate level demand coverage. particular, setup stations optimized every year, allowing increase in number chargers installed at set up previous years. have developed tailored heuristic algorithm resulting problem. validated our using case study instances based on village Gardone Val Trompia (Italy), city Barcelona (Spain), country Luxembourg. Despite variability sizes considered instances, consistently provided high-quality results short computational times, when compared commercial MILP solver. Produced solutions achieved optimality gaps within 7.5% less than 90 s, often achieving times 5 s.
